Is Your Home Secure?
Myth: The Police Automatically Respond to a Monitored Home Alarm System?
Many people think the police will automatically respond when a burglar triggers the back-to-base home alarm. They won’t!
They’ll only respond if you have a Category A alarm system. Unfortunately, however, most alarm systems are only Category B.
How do I know if my Home Alarm is Category A or Category B?
- Has it been regularly serviced by a Professional Security Service Technician in accordance with Australian Standards?
- Has it ever had Battery Back-up Change or Test?
- Is it being Monitored by a Grade A1 Control Room?
No? If your home alarm system is not being regularly serviced and maintained in accordance with Australian standards, then your home alarm is Category B. And that means no police response. At best, you’ll get a security patrol – but only if you pre-authorised it. Security patrols are often much slower than your local police and they may not even confront the burglar. What’s more, you’ll have to pay $70-$120 for the call out - even if it’s a false alarm. (And Category B systems can often false alarm, that’s why the police won’t respond to them!)
Oh, and if you haven’t pre-authorised a security patrol and the Security Monitoring Centre is unable to reach any of your Emergency Contacts… absolutely nothing happens! The burglar just gets away…
